Volume: I, Issue: III Publication Year: 2014 , Page(s): 1- 8

Abstract: All industries needs hoist for dealing with day to day activities for loading, unloading and transfer of material. As it is one ind of machine it requires proper care and maintenance periodically. If there is failure in hoist parts like rope, gearbox, brake it may results in very high maintenance cost. So, various problems in wire rope hoist needs to be avoided. We are mainly focused in find out problems occurred in wire rope hoist. Problems like brake dragging, vibration in gearbox, noise and wire rope failure are identified and our main objective is to remedised problems. We have taken wire rope hoist having capacity of 5 Tons as a case study and give remedies of identified problems by analytical methods. Further, report will explain various types of problems in hoist and analysis of problem occurrence, causes and its remedies and the different part which are important in construction of hoist. Hence, at the end of the project we will understand industry process for hoist, various difficulties in product operation and solution respond to the problem. By using solution given in this report we can avoid failures that occurs in wire rope hoist.

Effect of Alchohol & STP Octane Booster Gasoline Blend For 4-Stroke Single Cylinder Engine

Mr. Jayvir H. Shah Dr. Pravin P. Rathod

Volume: I, Issue: III Publication Year: 2014 , Page(s): 9-13

Abstract: Due to deplation of conventional fuel and an increase in exhaust emission at an alarming rate, it is essential to develop an engine which can work on non conventional fuels and reduce emission to graeater extent. Many reserchers had found the effect of  ethanol gasoline blend & methanol gasoline blend on engine performance & exhaust emmission. This study is aim to find the effect of  ethanol+methanol+STP octane booster as fuel additives in unleaded gasoline for four stroke single cylinder spark ignition  engine.Various performance & exhaust emmission is carried out for engine speed ranging from 2000- 3700 rpm with fuel additives varies from 5% to 15% by volume. It indicates that brake thermal, indicated thermal, mechanical efficiency increase as compare to pure unleaded gasoline blend. Also significant reduction in HC & CO, But increase CO2 emmision which in turn indicates increase in combustion efficiency. Also O2 amount increases as percentage of fuel additives increases.

Keywords - Ethanol, Methanol, Octane booster ,Engine performance & Exhaust emmision.

Auto Feed Radial Drilling Machine

Umang R. Pathak, Jignesh D. Patel, Mayank R. Patel & Amruta R. Mali

Volume: I, Issue: III Publication Year: 2014 , Page(s): 14-18

Abstract: Now a days, there is a tremendous development in the production industry and their relevant machinery to improve the productivity. Productivity of radial drilling machine is changed by anything that affects the design and mechanism of machine. Our idea is to implement auto feed mechanism in Radial drilling machine. Up and Down motion of spindle is accomplished by providing worm and worm gear which is connected to the motor and this is operated by switch. Also for proper clamping of work piece, magnetic table is being used. Processing cost of radial drilling machine decreased by implementing this advance  technology of controlling of product parameter and modifying the design and mechanisms i.e. Auto Feed Mechanism.

Keywords—Radial drilling, Auto feed mechanism, clamping etc.

Valji Gadhavi & Dr. Pravin P. Rathod

Volume: I, Issue: III Publication Year: 2014 , Page(s): 19-24

Abstract: In this research work, intention is to reduce all emissions such as HC, CO, NOx and smoke to be reduced by combine treatment of SCR, catalytic converter and fuel additive DEE using Blends of Jatropha Biodiesel and diesel as a fuel with varying blends of Jatropha Oil Methyl Ester. A single cylinder, four stroke, direct-injection, water cooled diesel engine tests were carried out with the aim of obtaining comparative measures of performance and exhaust emissions characteristics of blends of Jatropha Oil Methyl Ester. The results are analyzed to optimize best operating conditions for maximum performance and minimum emissions. The purpose of this paper is to focus on controlling air pollution generated from mobile sources which is a problem of general interest.

Keywords: Selective catalytic reduction (SCR), Jatropha Oil Methyl Ester (JOME), NOx emission, Two Way Catalytic converter (TWC), fuel additives, Diethyl Ether (DEE).

Optimization of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger using Genetic Algorithm

Patel Ankit N & Prof. M. N. Makwana

Volume: I, Issue: III Publication Year: 2014 , Page(s): 25-29

Abstract: Maximization of heat transfer and minimize cost of heat exchanger is key objective. Traditional methods of designs are time consuming and do not guarantee the reach of economically optimum solution. So in this research, a new shell and tube heat exchanger design optimization approach is developed based on genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm has some good features to get global minimum in comparison with other algorithms. In this study genetic algorithm is applied to maximize heat transfer and optimize other parameters like heat transfer coefficient shell side as well as tube side and pressure drop on both sides by varying various design parameters like Reynolds number, equivalent diameter, velocity of fluid etc. The design is done using Kern method and optimization done in MATLAB.

Keywords: shell and tube heat exchanger, optimal design, Thermal optimization, Genetic algorithm.

Optimum Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays Using Hybrid GA-NLP

AnkitRabari & Hardik H. Raval

Volume: I, Issue: III Publication Year: 2014 , Page(s): 34-40

Abstract: Coordination of directional overcurrent relays has been used in protection of transmission and distribution system. In the relay coordination primary relay must get sufficient chance to its primary protection, if the primary protection does not clear the fault and the backup protection should operate. In protection system relay coordination is very complicated. Several optimization techniques have been used in optimum coordination of DOCRs.Relay coordination can be selecting the optimum values of time multiplier setting (TMS) and plug setting (PS) of OCRs. This relay coordination problem is based on the hybrid genetic algorithm (GA)—nonlinear programming (NLP) for determination of optimum values of TMS and PS of OCRs.The hybrid method to overcome the drawback of GA and NLP method and determine the optimum settings of OCRs.GA has one of the drawback sometimes converging to the values which may not be optimum, and NLP method has a drawback of converging to local optimum values. The hybrid GA-NLP method has been determined initial values of TMS and PS using GA technique and finding final global optimum values using NLP method. The hybrid GA-NLP method making use of the both methods.

Keywords: Constrained optimization, Hybrid Genetic algorithm and nonlinear programming, overcurrent relay coordination.
